While making another gothic arch page for Nicole I remembered to take some process pics for a background tutorial. I didn’t have a clue what I was going to do other than that I wanted to use a nude transparency from Diva’s d’Este (they also have fab vintage fairies etc., do check them out!). And a new Anna Griffin stamp from All Night Media. I love acrylic paint, so instead of “posing tidy pictures” you get the honest view of how I work. Thanks to the heat gun which dries my acrylics right away I don’t really need to worry about many stains. Here’s actually another cheap trick I love but totally forgot about last month for the GPP crusade since I had run out of catalogs: I love to use catalogs (I get from my mom) as a work basis for small projects. I use it page by page and even use the other side of the spread as my painting palette. Once I’m done or it’s too messy, I just turn to the next clean page!! 🙂 And below is another cheap or rather “lazy” tip…  *** Als ich noch eine Gothikbogenseite für Nicole machte, hab ich dran gedacht ein paar Bilder für eine Hintergrundanleitung zu machen. Ich hatte keine Ahnung, was ich machen würde, außer dass ich eine Nackedeifolie von Diva’s d’Este benutzen wollte (sie haben auch tolle vintage fairies etc., schau dort mal vorbei!). Und einen neuen Anna Griffin-Stempel von All Night Media. Ich liebe Acrylfarbe, deshalb hab ich keine “gestellten sauberen Fotos” gemacht, sondern so wie es wirklich aussieht. Dank Heißluftfön trocknet die Farbe ruckzuck und ich brauch mir wegen Verschmieren wenig Gedanken machen. Hier hab ich auch noch einen billigen Trick, den ich bei der letzten GPP Crusade total vergessen habe, da ich keinen Katalog mehr hatte: Ich benutze total gerne Kataloge (krieg sie von meiner Mutter) als Malunterlage für kleine Projekte. Ich verwende ihn Seite für Seite und benutz die andere Doppelseite sogar als Malpalette für Farben. Wenn ich fertig bin oder es zu bunt wird, blättere ich einfach zur nächsten sauberen Seite weiter!! 🙂 Und weiter unten hab ich noch einen anderen billigen bzw. faulen Trick…

Paint cardstock on both sides with turquoise and titan white acrylics. If available, use heat gun to dry paint. *** Bemale beide Kartonseiten mit türkiser und titanweißer Acrylfarbe. Falls vorhanden, trockne Farbe mit Heißluftfön.

I decided to paint the bottom part of the front page in another color, so I painted on Golden’s titan white acrylics. *** Hab mich dann entschieden, den unteren Teil der Vorderseite in einer anderen Farbe zu machen und hab ihn erstmal mit Titanweiß von Golden übermalt.

Next I paint the white part with yellow green acrylics (Amsterdam). *** Als nächstes bemale ich den weißen Teil mit gelbgrüner Acrylfarbe (Amsterdam).

Next I stamp on my handcarved dotted stamp with yellow acrylic (Amsterdam). Then I paint the stamp using a sponge brush with titan white and then dab on blue and pink acylics (all Golden) onto the paisley stamp and stamp it on. *** Als nächstes stemple ich meinen geschnitzten Punktestempel mit gelber Acrylfarbe (Amsterdam) auf. Dann tupfe ich eine Schicht Titanweiß auf meinen Paisleystempel und anschließend mit Blau und Pink (alles Golden) und stemple ihn auf.

Since I forgot to mask off the blue part, so I wipe away the overstamped part with a towel and a q-tip. Voilà … all is well. *** Da ich vergessen hab den blauen Teil zu maskieren, wisch ich flott den überstempelten Teil mit einem Papiertuch und Q-tip weg.

Stamp script stamp (SU!)with turquoise acrylics (Amsterdam) onto blue part. *** Stemple Schriftstempel (SU!) mit Türkis (Amsterdam) auf den blauen Teil.

While I’m at it I stamp the back side also with a multicolored paisley pattern. *** Da ich gerade dabei bin, bestemple ich den Hintergrund auch mit einem bunten Paisleymuster.

Then I decide I want some swirls on top and since I don’t know how it’s going to look, I use a cheap/lazy trick: I paint on a thin layer of Golden’s Soft matte gel. Once dried, I can easily remove stamped on images if I don’t like them!! So I stamp on a swirl (Rhonda Farrer) with pink acrylics (Amsterdam). *** Dann entscheide ich, dass ich oben Schnörkel haben möchte, weiß aber nicht, wie es aussehen wird, deshalb benutze ich einen billigen/faulen Trick: Ich male eine dünne Schicht mit Golden’s Soft Matte Gel auf. Wenn’s trocken ist, kann ich so schnell Gestempeltes entfernen, dass ich nicht mag!! Also stemple ich einen Schnörkel (Rhonda Farrer) mit rosa Rosa (Amsterdam) auf.

Since I don’t have a turquoise polka dot ribbon, I paint it on with turquoise, yellowgreen and white. Then I paint yellow green acrylics onto the inner swirl lines with a detail paintbrush. *** Da ich kein türkises Polkadotband hab, mal ich es mit Türkis, Gelbblau und Weiß auf. Dann male ich die inneren Schnörkellinien mit einem feinen Pinsel und gelbgrüner Acrylfarbe nach.

Next I use my Sukaro GellyPen and redraw the swirl stamp. This makes 3 layers of paint for just the swirl but it looks so much better that way, right? *** Dann mal ich den Schnörkel noch mit dem Sakuro Gelstift nach. Das sind also 3 Lagen Farbe für den Schnörkel, aber er sieht so einfach besser aus, oder?

Now I decide that I like the swirls and add some more. Finally I edge the page with yellow green and turquoise paint and my background is ready. The scan is in a higher resolution so that you can print it out and use in your private artwork. Nothing better than a homemade background! Took me about an hour and a half. *** Nun entscheide ich, dass mir die Schnörkel gefallen und ich mach noch ein paar mehr drauf. Letztendlich bemal ich den Rand noch mit Gelbgrün und Türkis und dann ist der Hintergrund fertig. Hab den Scan in einer höheren Auflösung hochgeladen, so dass Du ihn Dir ausdrucken und in Privatwerken verwenden kannst. Gibt doch nichts besseres als einen selbstgemachten Hintergrund. Hat ca. 1 1/2 Stunden gedauert.
