Fabric Art Journals

fabric-books.jpgIt’s been a while, so here is Fabric Art Journals by Pam Sussman (published in 2005). I do admit that I don’t remember why I bought it and I had never heard of Pam Sussman before. But since I love books and fabric I guess I couldn’t resist … I’m such a visual junkie! The book is ideal and a must-have for people wanting to try out making their own fabric books and are new or know little about bookbinding! 3 chapters (=102 pages!!) show you everything from getting started with the basics up to some book binding forms translated into fabric with detailed descriptions, illustrations and stitching diagrams. Pam really did a fab job in these chapters. My visual highlights are the artwork in the gallery (chapter 4 = 23 pages): Keely Barham is my fabric hero and I just love anything she does, so luckily there are quite a few of her pieces! She got me into fabric and art quilting. Other inspiring arists are Beryl Taylor, Teesha Moore, Susan Shie’s journal quilts and there’s a few more. And I discovered 2 new fab artists I never heard of either, so it’s a treat to browse through the gallery. There are also a several templates at the end. Although I do my fabric books differently in many ways, I think this is a real inspiring book.

  3. Oh, I love this book. I have it too! I just had to buy it for the gorgeous pics on the cover. I love fabric art (I can only sew a straight line, and then they aren’t very straight), I would so love to learn this art. The colors are too die for! The ideas make this book worth buying!

  5. I was lucky enough to take a book class from Pam Sussman a couple of years ago at Artfest. She’s terrific! I liked it so much that I’m taking another class with her at Artfest 09. Anyone buying her books or taking her classes will have a fun, enlightening experience from a true professional.
