Thanks all for your kind comments on my Icicle Dolls. No, they are not for sale, but thanks for asking! Last month I found these cool bat earrings at my favorite arts & crafts store Bastelstube in Trier. Just love the fact such cool Halloween stuff is now available in Germany. Got 3 pairs because they screamed art doll to me. They are flexibel enough to be stitched onto fabric. Just perfect! So here goes … my Gothic Icicle Dolls hehehe I was tempted to add some tiny safety pins etc., maybe for the next ones. Instead of hiding the bat, you can see it when turning the doll. It’s so fun being silly … Oh, and did you notice I printed the black fabric with the cool GPP gothic script using red acrylics. I purposely used a lower student grade quality which gives it a nice muted look. Put a small skull bead at the bottom. Fits well the current challenge… How cool is that? ***

Vielen Dank für die netten Kommentare zu den Eiszapfenpuppen. Hab letzten Monat diese coolen Fledermausohrringel in meinem Lieblingsladen Bastelstube in Trier gefunden. Einfach klasse, dass es nun so viel Halloweenzeugs auch in Deutschland gibt. Hab gleich 3 Paar gekauft, da sie sofort Art Doll geschrieen haben. Sie sind flexibel genug und angenäht werden können. Perfekt sag ich nur! Hier sind also .. meine Gothik-Eiszapfenpüppis hehehe Ich hätte fast Mini-Sicherheitsnadeln angesteckt, vielleicht bei den nächsten. Anstelle die Fledermaus zu verstecken, siehst Du sie von vorne auf dem Rücken. Ist das herrlich, albern zu sein … Oh, und hast Du bemerkt, dass ich den schwarzen Stoff mit dem coolen GPP Gothiktext und rotem Acryl bedruckt habe. Habe bewußt weniger pigmentierte Farbe genommen, damit es etwas gedeckter aussieht. Hab diesmal unten einen kleinen Totenkopf augenäht. Passt prima zur laufenden Crusade … How cool is that?

Instructions for Icicle Dolls

Anleitung für Eiszapfenpuppen

1. Print my template HERE or make your own*** HIER meine Schablone ausdrucken oder eigene machen

2. Lay template onto fabric and cut out two pieces respecting seam allowance. *** Schablone auf Stoff legen und zweimal ausschneiden, Saum nicht vergessen.

3. Select and print image, cut out. *** Motiv auswählen, drucken und ausschneiden.

4. Sew image onto front piece. *** Motiv auf Vorderseite nähen.

5. Sew both sides together inside out leaving an opening in the top middle section. *** Beide Teile jeweils seitenverkehrt zunähen. Achtung – obige Mitte offen lassen zum Füllen.

6. Turn fabric inside out and fill with batting. *** Stoff nach außen drehen und füllen.

7. Cut up lengths of various fibers and stuff into opening, leaving a good length hanging out. Stitch opening together which also fixes the fiber lengths. Stitch on beads. If desired, trim fibers. *** Einige Wollfädenstücke zurechtschneiden und in die Öffnung stecken, dabei den größten Teil raushängen lassen. Öffnung mit Stichen schließen und gleichzeitig Wollfäden mitvernähen. Perlen aufnähen. Falls gewünscht, Wollfäden zurechtstutzen.

8. If desired, attach wings. My blue wings are cut from Pelmet Vilene stabilizer (or use non-fusible Pellon @ JoAnn’s or Timtex). In Australia available at The Thread Studio. Sponged on Dye-na-flows and stamped on text. *** Falls gewünscht, befestige Flügel. Meine blauen Flügel hab ich aus Pelmet Vilene (Stabilisator, gibt’s bei Quilt- und Textilkunst) geschnitten. Hab mit Schwämmchen Dye-na-flows aufgetupft (auch bei Quilt- und Textilkunst) und Text aufgestempelt.

9. If desired stitch on beads, Buttons and other embellishments. Attach a loop at back for hanging. *** Falls gewünscht, Perlen, Knöpfe etc. aufnähen. Hinten zum Aufhängen eine Schlaufe annähen.

Images/Motive: You can print your own image directly onto fabric, or t-shirt transfer paper (that’s what I did), print an image using a rubberstamp, make a polymer clay face, paper face, paint your own etc. *** Motive kannst Du direkt auf Stoff ausdrucken, oder auf T-Shirt Transferpapier (wie ich), ein Motiv mit Stempel aufdrucken, ein Fimogesich machen, Papiermotiv, selbst gemaltes, etc.

Batting/Füllung: You can take anything for filling, like batting. I use chopped up sponge rubber from recycled seat cushions. *** Als Füllung kannst Du alles mögliche verwenden, z.B. Watte. Ich verwende Schaumgummistückchen von alten Stuhlkissen, die ich zufällig habe.

WS: Growing old

A spread in my altered book made for the new WS challenge growing old, following up the children theme. Quite a hard one. I knew right away that it had to be these 3 grannies. I remember as a kid seeing a lot of grannies with pinkish or purpleish hair and thought how cool are they! Growing old should stand for pure fun and pleasure. The stamps are the usual suspects on my acrylic papers. *** Eine Doppelbuchseite in meinem Altered Book für die neue MS-Herausforderung Älterwerden, anknüpfend an das Kinderthema. Recht schwierig … Wußte aber gleich, dass ich diese 3 coolen Omis verwenden mußte. Als Kind hab ich oft Omis mit rosa und lila Haar gesehen und dachte, wie cool sind die denn! Älterwerden sollte eigentlich aus reinem Spass und Vergnügen bestehen! Die Stempel sind die üblichen Verdächtigen auf meinen Acrylpapieren.

Happy Birthday Sis

Today is my sister Beatrice’s birthday and her husband just put up 2 of her videos on YouTube. Here she is singing one of my favorite aria – O mio babbino caro from Puccini. Gives me the goose bumbs every time I hear her sing it!!! Happy Birthday Sweetie! And yes, that IS her real voice, nothing dubbed (she’s a professional opera singer). No, I am a normal alto if I do have to sing. *** Heute hat meine Schwester Beatrice Geburtstag und ihr Mann hat gerade 2 ihrer Videos bei YouTube eingestellt. Hier singt sie eine meiner liebsten Arien – O mio babbino caro von Puccini. Krieg immer Gänsehaut, wenn ich sie es singen höre!! Herzlichen Glückwunsch Süße! Und ja, das IST ihre richtige Stimme, nix getürkt (sie ist eine professionelle Opernsängerin). Nö, ich hab mal gerade eine normale Alt-Stimme, wenn’s denn sein muß.

Fabric Dolls

Been “fabricing”some art dolls since September. Made this ahem … rolled doll. You might remember this image and I’ll certainly be using it more, just love it (available from ARTchix Studio’s Hat’s in Bloom collage sheet). Scanned it onto a blue text background and then printed it on t-shirt transfer paper. Both art dolls (rolled and icicle below) fit well the new Australian based Mixed Media challenge blog (yes, yet another new one!) which has Vintage Women as the current theme. *** Bin seit September an einigen Art Dolls am”Stoffeln”. Hab diese ähem … gerollte Puppe gemacht. Das Motiv hast Du vielleicht schon gesehen und ich werde es sicherlich mehr benutzen, mag es total (erhältlich auf ARTchix Studio’s Hat’s in Bloom Collagebogen). Hab es auf blauen Texthintergrund gescannt und auf T-Shirt-Transferpapier ausgedruckt. Beide art dols (gerollte und Eiszäpfchen unten) passen prima zum neuen – in Australien beheimateten – Mixed Media challenge blog (jepp, und schon wieder ein neuer!) der Vintage Women als Thema hat.

For another project I made Icicle Dolls and used the same image, it just looks so cool in blue I think. Made this doll actually before the rolled one. *** Für ein anderes Projekt hab ich diese Icicle Doll (Eiszapfenpuppe) gemacht und kam nicht umhin, das gleiche Motiv zu verwenden, sieht einfach supi auf Blau aus. Hab diese Puppe eigentlich for der gerollten gemacht.

And while at art dolls, I received this most adorable Dotee doll from the talented, kind and generous Dotee Christian from Australia. Isn’t she the cutest? She should really be called Happy Dotee Doll, because you cannot help but smile when looking at it. Never seen these small birdies before!! Thanks a million Dotee. *** Und da ich beim Thema Art Dolls bin, ich hab noch diese tolle Dotee doll von der talentierten, freundlichen und großzügigen Dotee Christian aus Australien bekommen. Ist sie nicht zuckersüß? Eigentlich müßte sie Happy Dotee Doll heißen, da man bei ihrem Anblick einfach nur schmunzeln kann. Tausend Dank Dotee.

Ethnic Patchwork Chic

Before I head out for bellydance class tonight, I just have to share these yummy pics I found in the new Elle Décoration (French version November 07) I bought today. Who couldn’t resist this tempting cover? Just love the gorgeous ethnic chic, bold colors and pattern kind of hippie Goa style. Wouldn’t you like to get lost in a book in one of these sofas or armchairs from Squint (UK)? Lisa Whatmough uses vintage and new textiles in her upholsteries, you can even bring your own textiles which she’ll then include. Très cool! Read some about her here and here. *** Bevor ich heute abend zu meiner Bauchtanzklasse düse, muss ich noch diese Fotos aus der neuen Elle Décoration (Französische Ausgabe November 07) zeigen. Wer könnte diesem verführerischen Cover schon widerstehen! Liebe diesen Ethno-Mix, kräftige Farben und herrliche Muster im Hippie-Goa-Stil. Wer würde sich nicht gerne in einem dieser Sofas oder Sessel von Squint (UK) mit einem Buch verlieren? Lisa Whatmough verwendet alte und neue Textilien in ihren Bezügen und man kann sogar eigene Stoffe mitbringen, die sie dan mitverwendet. Sehr cool!

And look at these amazing oversized vases below, created by Isabelle Braud. Her site displays her paintings, sculptures, journal pages, ceramics etc. Her shoe sculptures are quite fun! Trips to Marocco and Pakistan certainly left a mark on her artwork. *** Sind diese übergroßen Vasen, kreiert von Isabelle Braud, nicht toll? Auf ihrer Seite zeigt sie einen Überblick über ihre Gemälde, Skulpturen, Journal-Seiten, Keramiken etc. Die Schuhskulpturen sind lustig! Reisen nach Marokko und Pakistan haben ganz klar ihre Kunst beeinflußt.

WS: Children

I discarded some seat cushions in the Summer and ended up with a big garbage bag full of pieces of batting. Been using it already for Sewzy and some other fabric thingies and couldn’t resist making a doll since we’re celebrating Children at the WS this week. The other week it’s was my niece Eve’s (medieval) birthday party and look how cute these little princesses and Eve’s moo doll pin looks! Her brother and some boys were dressed as knights, what a cool party this was. Anyway, I printed a photo of Eve onto t-shirt transfer paper, ironed it onto fabric and made the little Eve Dollie. Printed her name onto dyed fabric using Turtle Press Alpha stamps and Staz-On ink pad. Not much time for this, so will add beads and something glitzy before I give it to her. And unfortunatelly I missed Neda’s Blog Action Day for the ENVIRONMENT on Monday, but it’s never too late get active. After all the children will be growing old on this planet… *** Im Sommer hab ich ein Paar Stuhlkissen entsorgt, doch vorher hab ich die Füllung in eine große Mülltüte gefüllt. Hab es schön für Sewzy und andere Stoffdinger verwendet und kam nicht umhin eine Puppe zu machen, da wir diese Woche bei den MS die Kinder feiern. Vor 2 Wochen hatte meine Nichte Eve ihre mittelalterliche Geburtstagsfeier und schau mal, wie süß die kleinen Burgfräuleins und Prinzessinnen und Eve’s Moo-Püppi ausschaun! Ihr Bruder und einige Jungs kamen verkleidet als Ritter, was für eine coole Feier. Jedenfalls hab ich ein Foto von Eve auf T-Shirt-Transferpapier gedruckt, auf Stoff gebügelt und dann diese Eve-Püppi gemacht. Ihren Namen hab ich mit Turtle Press Alpha-Stempel und Staz-On auf gefärbten Stoff gedruckt. Hab wenig Zeit im Moment und werde noch Perlen und etwas Klitzriges drauf nähen, bevor ich sie ihr gebe. Leider hab ich Neda’s Blog Action Day für die UMWELT am Montag verpaßt, doch es ist niemals zu spät etwas zu tun. Immerhin werden die Kinder auf diesem Planeten alt werden…

Kyrgyzstan

To wrap-up the trip to Kyrgyzstan, above is a picture of the wonderful CACSA team (left to right: Zarina Ibraimova, Zura Rasalieva, Gulmira Osmonkulova, Svetlana Balalaeva, Elmira Bakirova and Ainura Bozgunchieva) who organized the exciting Felt Symposium (2 missing interns were still at the Oimo Festival) and made it an unforgettable experience for all of us. Very interesting were also the many interesting international artists’ presentations they organized on the occasion of the opening ceremony of the symposium as well as a round table with representants from the political, economical and artistic life. A post with fabulous felt ornaments I bought there is in the works… Below some fave Kyrgyz snapshots. Raxmat CACSA (Thank you or Spasibo in Russian, the only other word I remember)!!*** Zum Abschluß der Kirgisienreise ist oben ein Foto des wunderbaren CACSA-Teams (von li nach re: Zarina Ibraimova, Zura Rasalieva, Gulmira Osmonkulova, Svetlana Balalaeva, Elmira Bakirova and Ainura Bozgunchieva), das dieses aufregende Filzsymposium organisiert (2 Praktikannen waren derzeit noch beim Oimo-Festival) und uns ein unvergeßliches Erlebnis ermöglicht hat. Sie haben auch anläßlich der Eröffnungsfeier der Symposium viele interessante Vorträge von intl. Filzkünstlern organisiert als auch am Ende einen Runden Tisch mit Vertretern aus Politik, Wirtschaft und Künstlern. Ein Beitrag mit dort gekauften tollen Filzanhängern ist in Arbeit… Unten noch einige liebste kirgisische Schnappschüsse., Raxmat CACSA (Danke in Kyrgisisch, oder Spasibo in Russisch, an mehr erinnere ich mich nicht mehr!!

Michelle is collecting Grave Dirt, need to get her some from Lux eventually. Below is a proof of mucho pebbles on this grave in Bokanbaevo village. I was told that this is a sign of respect for the decease. Looks like the Musliums share this tradition with the Jews. *** Michelle sammelt Graberde, muß ihr wohl welche aus Lux besorgen. Unten ist der Beweis eines Fotos mit viiilen Steinen im Dorf Bokanbaevo. Mir wurde gesagt, dass dies ein Zeichen für Respekt des Verstorbenen ist. Die Musliume scheinen diese Tradition mit den Juden zu teilen.

And last but not least, last year the book “Kyrgyzstan” was first published in Italian (Original) and is now available in English, Kyrgyz and Russion versions are in the works. It’s not cheap but decided to purchase it after all. The book is based on the transcript of interviews by Philippe Labreveux and Dinara Chochumbaeva (President of CACSA) with ethnographer Klavdiya Ivanovna Antipina and never before published text. “She is called the “baybiche” (grandmother) of Kyrgyz ethnography. She managed not just to review, but also to see, evaluate, collect and describe the special features of Kyrgyz native culture, and thus passed on to posterity these invaluable samples of unique traditon, which are also a part of world culture… The book is unique. Never before has an account of the costumes of the nomadic peoples of Central Asia been published in America or western European literature. Her work particularly focused on the material culture of the southern Kyrgyz.” The book contains scientic text and 30 color and 34 black-white photographs by Rolando Paiva as well as 74 watercolor paintings by Temirbek Musakeev. *** Und zum Abschluß noch das Buch Kyrgyzstan, das letztes Jahr in Italienisch (Original) veröffentlicht wurde und nun auch auf Englisch erhältlich ist, Kirgisisch und Russisch sind in Arbeit. Kein billiges Buch, aber ich hab’s letztendlich doch gekauft und bereue es keinesfalls. WS: Inchies

I really thought I’d get around those inchies but Tina chose it for the new WS challenge. So here’s what I produced last night. And somehow I ended up making an Inchie doll, surprised … ? teehee Tina wanted to see what I do with my acrylic paper. Well, like Moo cards they’re great for using leftovers!! I knew they had been around for a while but didn’t realize just for how long. You REALLY have to check out the inchies made by Dot Christian from Australia for a swap hosted by Julie O’Neill back in August 2006. They are just fabulous, I love discovering all the little details! Not sure, whether Julie is the mother of them inchies, but she is the earliest I could trace back. I went hunting for some fab inchie art last night: a portrait inchie gallery at Shari Schneider‘s from the US, white fabric inchies from Fiona Mortimore from Australia and Sandra Müller’s white/nature inchies from Germany . If you want to see some creative ideas what to do with your many swapped inchies, Sara Lechner from Austria made a tryptich and Beate Knappe from Germany shares her inchie house. *** Schreck – ich hatte doch wirklich geglaubt, ich komme um diese Inchies herum, doch Tina hat es als neue MS-Herausforderung ausgesucht. Hier sind also meine Kächelchen von letzter Nacht. Überrascht, dass eine Inchie Doll bei rauskam…? teehee Tina forderte mich frech heraus, meine Acrylpapiere zu sehen. Wie Moo-Kärtchen eignen sie sich hervorragend zur Resteverwertung. Ich wußte, dass sie schon seit einer Weile die Runde machten, aber wußte nicht wirklich wie lange schon. Du mußt Dir UNBEDINGT die Inchies anschauen, die Dot Christian aus Australia für einen Swap im August 2006 machte, der von Julie O’Neill organisiert wurde. Sie sind total klasse und ich finde es super all die vielen kleinen Details zu entdecken! Bin mir nicht sich, ob Julie die Mutter der Inchies ist, aber sie war wohl sicherlich eine der ersten. War gestern abend auf der Jagd nach tollen Inchie-Kreationen: eine Portrait-Inchie-Gallerie von Shari aus den USA, weiße Stoff-Inchies von Fiona Mortimore aus Australien und Sandra Müller machte klassische weiße Natur-Inchies. Und wenn Du Ideen brauchst, was Du mit all den vielen Inchies machen kannst, Sara Lechner aus Österreich hat ein Tryptichon und Beate Knappe ein Inchie-Haus gemacht.
