Kyrgyz artist workshops

At the beginning of the symposium, CACSA made it possible for us to visit some artist workshops and a showroom of professional textile artists. Unfortunately I missed those on the first day since I arrived only in the afternoon. The workshops are located in the Tumar Art Group building which is situated next to a big bazaar. This building is amazing since on several floors they dye fabrics, sew, embroider, felt, … all kinds of textile handicraft!! We would have loved to visit every single one and peeked into a few more.

First we visited Tatiana Vorodnikova‘s workshop, one of the leading fashion designers in Kyrgyzstan, who was busy preparing for the felt fashion show I showed some pics of earlier. (Look at this fabulous report on a similar visit to her I found on a Dutch site and about her on the UNESCO site.)

216.jpgThis is fashion designer Dilbar (picture below: Begaim Mamatova, Rahat Asylbekova, Dilbar Ashimbai) with 2 CACSA interns who accompanied us on the first days in Bishkek. Her showroom is simply fabulous and compliments beautifully the gorgeous hand-embroidered clothes (mostly silk) and accessories with Kyrgyz accents. You can find her clothes also at the Sangaree Boutique in Washington DC. The interior design and details of the showroom complement beautifully her designs. Found some of her designs in this Moscow Fashion Week article.
