WS: Double Trouble

Two silver pendants (wannabe earrings :) ) made from PMC (Precious Metal Clay) for the new WS challenge Double Trouble. Used an Acey Deucy stamp for printing. Just got back from Art & Soul in Portland and where I took a workshop with the lovely Lisa Call. She’s such a sweetheart and you gotta love what she does. My local craft and art supply shop Bastelkiste carries Art Clay (similar to PMC, just a different competing company). This has been great fun and I’m certain I will eventually make more silver things since I enjoy working with clay. Below is a 3d house pendant I made … with lots of patience and good will since pretty much everything that could go wrong from beginning to end happened to me! But I made it, even if I was the last one to finish haha  It was a wonderful and fun class, anytime again with Lisa!!

Sie ist eine ganz Liebe und Dir muss einfach gefallen, was sie macht. Mein örtlicher Bastel- und Kunstzubehörladen Bastelkiste führt Art Clay (ähnlich wie PMC, nur eine andere wetteifernde Firma. Es hatte total viel Spass gemacht und ich bin mir sicher, dass noch mehr Silberteile dazukommen werden, da ich gerne mit einer Knetmasse arbeite. Oben ist auch ein 3d-Haus-Anhänger den ich gemacht habe … mir viel Geduld und gutem Willen, da mir so ziehmlich alles schief ging vom Anfang bis zum Ende, was schief gehen konnte! Doch ich hab’s geschaffe, auch wenn ich als letzte fertig wurde haha  Es war eine tolle und lustige Klasse, jederzeit gerne wieder mit Lisa!!

A marvelous fabric time

Spent a marvelous fabric weekend in Bad Aibling with Munich stamping gals last month. Karola owns a fabulous hotel the Schmelmer Hof where we were warmly welcomed and had our own fabric working room of course. Manja organized the retreat and Magda, a professional seamstress and clothing engineer,  introduced us to machine quilting and surface design. Belinda forgot her camera of course, snatched this pic from Manja’s blog. She’s has shared great pics here if you want to take a peak. I cannot present anything finished since I rarely finish something these days anyway. Plus I realized I need a special free stitching needle foot for  my machine, but at least it’s fixed now and makes beautiful straight stitches. 

Hab ein wunderschönes Stoffwochenende letzten Monat in Bad Aibling mit Mädels vom Müncher Stempelstammtisch erlebt. Karola besitzt ein schönes Hotel, der Schmelmer Hof , der uns herzlich begrüßt und wir unseren eigenen Stoffwerkelraum. Manja  hat das Ganze organisiert und Magda, eine Profi-Nähering und Bekleidungsingenieuring,  führte uns ins Maschinenquilten und Ssurface Design ein. Belinda hat natürlich die Kamera vergessen. Manja hat etliche Fotos auf ihrem Blog hier, sollte es Dich interessieren. Kann nix Fertiges zeigen, da Vieles irgendwie angefangen bleibt. Hatte vorort aber auch erst kapiert, dass ich noch einen speziellen Nähfuß für meine Singer-Maschine brauche. Nun denn, wenigstens näht sie nach der Reparatur wieder gerade Strich einwandfrei. Auch schon was. 

Started the above little fabric book by dying and stamping onto white fabric. Wanted to use my Stampotique images, so it will be the Stampotique Zone book! It’s simply folded together accordion style. Still a long work-in-progress, but I’m getting there and I try to add hand sewing and machine sewing. I love the newer large image, be warned though that Leeta isn’t correctly mounted (found that out the hard way!!).
Hab das obige kleine Stoffbuch dort angefangen, indem ich weißen Stoff gefärbt und bestempelt habe. Wollte meine Stampotique-Stempel verwenden, es wird also ein Stampotique Zone Buch! Es wird einfach zusammengefaltet im Leporello-Stil. Hab erst angefangen, aber etwas kann ich schon zeigen. Bemühe mich, Handgenähtes mit Maschinenstichen zu kombinieren. Mag total gerne die neuen großen Gesichter, doch Achtung, Leeta ist nicht korrekt montiert (nervig, nervig!!).

Alle mochten meine Sewzy, so haben einige spontan am aSamstag und Sonntag eine eigene genäht, Schablone gibt es hier. Schönes Gruppenfoto, oder?

Since it’s a fabric post, look at my latest fabric delivery, new Kaffe Fassett fabrics and batiks. Oh my, I always delight in his fabrics – the pattern and colors just make my heart sing! Will soon be put to use.
Da dies ein stoffiger Beitrag ist, kann ich auch meine neuesten Stofferrungenschaften zeigen, meine neuen Kaffe Fassett-Stoffe und Gebatiktes. Also wirklich, diese Stoffe sind so herrlich – die Muster und die Farben sprechen meine Seele einfach an! Werden bald zum Einsatz kommen.

Miss Bali

Meet Miss Bali, my wallpaper woman started in Bali. What a gorgeous island, what am I doing here in Luxembourg!? I know what …  just couldn’t stand living with such humidity!! Hits you right in your face first thing when leaving the plane. Yet the beauty of the island -  the tropical vegetation, the Balinese architecture, the lovely people and their big smiles quickly make up for it. An island I would visit again any time, so worth a trip! Too bad the retreat was such a rip-off (see end), that’s why I’ve been hesitating posting about it. But I want to show my first XXXL artwork and I really loved working in that size. Needs some preparation though!
Das ist Miss Bali, meine Tapetenfrau begonnen in Bali. Was für eine wunderschöne Insel, was mach ich nur hier in Luxemburg?! Ich weiß was … ich könnte einfach nicht mit solcher Luftfeuchtigkeit leben. Schlägt dir voll ins Gesicht, sobald Du den Flieger verläßt. Doch die Schönheit der Insel – die tropische Vegetation, die balinesische Architektur, die wunderschönen Menschen und ihre großen Lächeln machen das schon wett. Eine Insel, die ich sofort jederzeit wieder besuchen würde, wirklich eine Reise wert! Nur schade, dass das Retreat voll die Abzocke war (s. unten), hatte deswegen mit einem Beitrag gezögernt. 

Anahata’s workshops were fun! She’s a sweet woman and an incredible and creative artist. She spoiled us with some of her commercial products and Balinese treats. I loved the wallpaper workshop and finally enjoyed working with such a large size. Mandalas aren’t my cup of tea and I wasn’t sad to leave my framed canvas with unfinished artwork behind hehe The perfect ending for the retreat was her half day natural shrine project. We went to the beach, looked for found objects and she challenged us (with sweet tears in her eyes) to create natural shrines which we would leave behind as an offering to the beautiful island. Her sweet spirit touched us all. She has offered these classes also at Artfest, where you can catch her again if you want to take her classes, just avoid Archangelo.

Anahata’s workshops haben Spaß gemacht. Sie ist eine nette Frau und eine unglaubliche und kreative Künstlerin. Sie verwöhnte uns mit ihren Kommerzprodukten und Sachen aus Bali. Fand den Tapeten-Workshop (Wallpaper People) klasse und hab endlich gerne mal groß gearbeitet. Mandala’s sind nicht so mein Ding und war nicht traurig, meinen begonnenen Keilrahmen wegen Gewichtsreduktion zurückzulassen hehe. Das perfekte Ende war das halbtägige Naturschrein-Projekt. Wir gingen zum Strand, suchten nach Gegenständen und sie forderte uns auf (mit süßen Tränen in den Augen), Naturschreine zu machen, die wir als Dankeschön and die wunderschöne Insel zurücklassen würden. Ihr Einstellung berühte uns alle. All diese Klassen gab’s bereits beim Artfest, wo Du sie immer wieder erleben kannst wenn Du dies möchtest, vermeide Archangelo.

Elizabeth Gilbert’s book “Eat, pray, love” was a reading recommendation by Anahata. Very funny and interesting reading, especially when you’ve been to Italy, India and Bali! Gilbert is a great writer for sure, but I cannot follow the hype it received. She also writes about meeting a healer in Bali, Ketut Liyer. Haha, his last name should be spelled Liar since it turns that everybody get’s the same reading. Kinda goes well with the retreat, doesn’t it?! No, I didn’t visit him to get a reading, but many others did and paid 25 US$ each. Rediculous. ***  Elizabeth Gilbert’s Buch “Eat, pray, love” war eine Leseempfehlung von Anahata. Sehr lustig und interessant zu lesen, besonders wenn man Italien, Indien und Bali kennt! Gilbert ist zweifellos eine gute Schriftstellerin, aber ich kann den Hype um das Buch nicht Nachvollziehen.  Sie schreibt auch über einen Heiler in Bali namens Ketut Liyer. Haha, sein Nachname sollte besser Liar (Lügner) lauten, denn wie sich herausstellte kriegt jeder die gleiche Handlessung. Paßt irgendwie zur Abzocke der ganzen Veranstaltung. Nein, ich bin nicht zum Heiler gegangen, doch viele andere waren dort und haben je 25 US$ gezahlt. Lächerlich und voll die Verarsche.

If you don’t mind getting ripped off, then book a workshop with Archangelo Productions and stay at Apakabar Villas in Amed/Bali. As for me, NEVER NEVER AGAIN. Like Mexico and India, tourists get ripped off, but this is major rip-off which I don’t even want to link to. Archangelo started out questionably by charging too much from myVISA, of course they ripped me off when reimbursing in Bali. Anahata’s merchandise was mailed out beforehand to all attendees, except those from Australia and me from Europe. We had to schlepp it home, not funny since every gramm/ounce counts from Bali. Most discriminating! Indonesian food is SOOO delicious. Sadly, the restaurant was OK and far from delicious and a rather limited selection. Prices had just raised between 20 to 20 %. The satay ayam (chicken skewers) were more delicious at the stand in front of a nearby market! All rooms are different yet we pay the same price, I had a small one, dark bathroom. Although I cannot complain since some had smelly bathrooms. Nobody tells you that Amed is in the middle of nowhere. One attendee was charged 50 US$ for a round-trip to Ubud (where you really want to go!!), another paid 80 US$. Thye list goes on and on …  just stay away from them. Travel to Bali on your own and take Anas workshops in the US! Obviously it’s lucrative for them and Anahata, so if you innocently booked a Bali retreat with them, no need to stay extra nights there, spend a fabulous time in the south of the island.

Da sicherlich niemand Deutschsprechendes so blöd ist und auf die Abzocke von Archangelo Productions und Apakabar Villas reinfällt, will ich auf Details nicht eingehen. Einfach nur fernbleiben, verlinken will ich natürlich auch nicht.

Fiber play

First of all thank you all for your kind comments on and off blog! As always they are much appreciated and make my day. Here are a few more fabric pieces I’ve been making and received a pressie. Made a fabric gothic arch with a Zetti button doll. She’s finally travelling to her new home (I’m such a slow boat!). *** Zuallererst vielen lieben Dank für all die netten Kommentare über den Blog oder privat. Find ich immer sehr lieb und sie verschönern den Tag. Hab mal wieder etwas gestoffelt, und auch was geschenkt bekommen. Hab einen Stoffgotikbogen mit einer Zetti Button Doll gemacht. Sie ist endlich unterweg zu ihrem neuen Zuhause (ich bin auch eine lahme Ente!).

Got this fabulouso black bird in a surprise package from the generous Dawnie! Love how she used a felted piece for the front. Quite a übertalented lady with such awesome taste!! Thank you so much again. *** Hab diesen tollen schwarzen Vogel in einem Überraschungspaket von der großzügigen Dawnie bekommen! Besonders toll ist das gefilzte bunte Vorderteil. Schon eine übertalentierte Frau mit ausgezeichnetem Geschmack!! Nochmals vielen lieben Dank.

Been dreaming of travelling to Bali for a long time (who doesn’t!?). Well … I’m not quite there yet, but in anticipation of my upcoming travel to Bali I started making a Bali Jounal to take along for a retreat with Anahata. Couldn’t resist painting up the cover image which is more India inspired , but I think it works for Bali/Indonesia as well. Decided to pull out the next best thing next to Kaffe Fassett, my Bali Batik fabrics. The cover isn’t finished yet, I just don’t have anything more in gold. Hope to find things to add to the top and the right side. Thanks to Kelly I’m in journaling mode.

Träume schon lange davon, nach Bali zu reisen (wer tut das nicht!?). Tja… bin zwar noch nicht ganz da, doch in Vorfreude auf meine kommende Reise nach Bali hab ich angefangen, mir ein Bali Jounal zu machen für die Workshops mit Anahata. Konnte nicht widerstehen und hab was für den Deckel gemalt, eher eine Inderin, doch ich denke sie passt auch prima nach Bali/Indonesien. Entschloß mich, meine Bali Batik Stoffe zu verwenden, die ich genauso liebe wie Kaffe Fassett. Buchdeckel ist noch nicht fertig, hab so gut wie nix Goldenes. Hoffe, dass ich dort Sachen finde, die ich oben und auf die seche Seite anbringen kann. Dank Kelly bin ich ja im Journal-Modus.

Stoffen Spektakel

My local art friend Laurence told me the other day about this upcoming event here in Luxembourg – Stoffen Spektakel! Something to look forward to. A travelling event throughout the year touring 24 cities. The site is also in German and French, go there if you live in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg.  If you live in a bordering country (Germany/France), have a look, it might worth a visit.

Meine hiesige Kreativfreundin Laurence erzählte mir kürzlich vom Stoffen Spektakel hier in Luxemburg! Endlich auch hier mal stoffmäßig was los. Eine Reise-Ausstellung durch 24 Städte (Bernina ist auch mit dabei). Natürlich von den Niederländern in Gang gesetzt, Seite oben ist sogar in Deutsch! Solltest Du in BeNeLux oder in Grenznähe, schau einfach mal vorbei! Und freu Dich auf dieses Stoffe und Nähzubehörparadies!

More Art + Soul

One more Art & Soul Virginia post. The other class I took was Traci Bautista’s colorful layers.doodles.monoprints. My cute and fun sister Benita loves to scrapbook and photograph, so I knew she’d enjoy her classes and I signed us up both up for the class with techniques from Traci’s book Collage unleashed. At least one class we could play together!! I have never done too much monoprinting and Benita never even worked with acrylics before. We both had a blast! I just enjoy watching other people play around with paints and Traci uses some products that were new to me, so it was great fun to play around with them. Made lots of background papers. A girl next to Benita made 62, don’t know how she did so many though! Benita made the b/w collage in the evening class, and all the doodling exercises were just right up her ally. She made several collages, this one with pictures from her kids is my fave though. The felting classes were fun and so exhausting and I don’t think I would have done the purse class without my sister’s assistance. Thanks love muffin! Hot water and rubbing are key elements in wet felting and I cannot repeat it enough. Yet I am so amazed and excited that so many students finished their purses! Karen finished first with the aqua purse, Terrie just needs to do her handle, way to go. Kathy posted her gorgeous flaming purse on her blog. Joyce hasn’t finished her purse yet, but she posted her beautiful wet felted flower ring on her blog. Enjoyed everyone and I’m so thrilled that so many dare discover wet felting, since it involves physical work and certainly is not for the masses. The houses made for the “doodad” village were sooo fabulous. Every attendee received a papiermaché house and look what they did with them!! (Me again taking blurry pictures.) Yet my very very favorite was what the artist (don’t know who it was) for house no.1 did! The most amazing and incredible little fairy house and landscape you could think of. What a great time and I look forward to another time…

Noch ein weiterer Art & Soul-Beitrag. Meine andere Klasse war Traci Bautista’s farbenfrohe Schichten.Gekritzel.Monoprinte. Meine süße und lustige Schwester Benita scrapbookt und fotographiert gerne, deshalb wußte ich, dass ihr Traci’s Klassen Spass machen würden. Hab uns also beide für die Klasse mit Techniken aus ihrem Buch Collage unleashed angemeldet. Wenigstens eine Klasse, wo wir zusammen kreativ sein konnten! Ich hab nie viel mit Monoprinting gemacht und Benita sogar noch nie mit Acryl gearbeitet. Somit hatten wir beide einen Riesenspass! Ich seh anderen ja immer gerne dabei zu, wie sie mit Farben arbeiten und Traci benutzt einige Produkte, die mir neu waren. Hab eine Menge Hintergrundpapiere gemacht. Ein Mädel neben Benita machte glatt 62, keine Ahnung, wie sie so viele geschafft hat! Benita hat diese s/w-Collage gemacht und alle die Kritzelei-Übungen in der 2. Klasse waren total ihr Ding. Sie machte mehrere Collage, dieses hier mit Fotos ihrer Kids gefällt mir am besten. Die Filzklassen hatten Spass gemacht, aber ich bin immer total groggy und weiß nicht, wie ich die Taschenklasse ohne die tatkräftige Hilfe meiner Schwester geschafft hätte. Danke love muffin! Heißes Wasser und Reiben sind superwichtig im Naßfilzen und ich kann das nie genug wiederholen. Doch bin ich immer noch erstaunt und begeistert, dass so viele ihre Taschen fertig gekriegt haben! Karen war als erste mit ihrer Aqua-Tasche fertig, Terrie fehlte nur noch den Henkel. Kathy hat ihre wunderschöne Flammentasche auf ihrem Blog eingestellt! Joyce hat ihre Tasche zwar noch nicht fertig, aber sie hat ihren wunderschönen gefilzten Blumenring auf ihrem Blog. Hatte Spass mit allen und bin immer wieder froh, dass sich so viele an das Naßfilzen wagen, da es körperliche Arbeit erfordert und nichts für die Massen ist. Die Häuser für das “Dingsbums“-Dorf waren alle so klasse. Die Teilnehmer hatten vorab ein Papiermachéhaus erhalten und schau nur, was sie daraus gemacht haben!! (Ich mach mal wieder unscharfe Fotos.) Doch mein allerallerliebstes war das Haus Nr.1! Die Künstlerin (Name unbekannt) hat das allerschönste kleine Feenhaus mit Landschaft gezaubert. Und soo viel Details gemacht, unglaublich. Tolle Zeit, die im Nu verstrichen ist und freu mich schon auf ein nächstes Mal…

Michael deMeng

Taking a workshop with Michael deMeng is always cool, fun and just fabulous! What I really like about his assemblages is that he turns anything into art in his unique way, from pez candy containers to shoes, light bulbs, matchbox cars … even a seemingly useless polaroid picture can be turned into a piece of rusty art. I sat next to the lovely MizCarla and so enjoyed meeting her at last. It was fun to watch her work on her lightbulb shrine, even 2 fab version. It is always so amazing what everybody comes up with in those workshops. Here’s my Frida Shrine so far, but it’s not done yet. Need mucho more flowers, so until I have them, I added some leaves. Finally I was able to buy some of his stamps made for Stampers Anonymous. Love them! My niece Mikalah enjoyed being my model on her birthday wearing Michael’s new apron! Isn’t she cute? As a special sneak preview we got to look through his soon-to-be-out book “Secrets of rusty things“. It’s not a regular workshop book with instructions, instead he talks in various chapters about mythology. Yet there are muchissimo pictures with a lot of detail and process images to accompany the feature chapter artwork. A feast for the eyes and surely lots of interesting reading. And if you have some extra pennies and love Mexico, you might want to attend deMeng de los Muertos in Oaxaca, Mexico this October. Wouldn’t I love to go there … *** Ein Workshop mit Michael deMeng ist immer cool, lustig und einfach großartig! Was mir an seinen Assemblagen so gut gefällt ist, dass er alles in ein Kunstwerk verwandelt, von einer Pez-Bonbon-Behälter zu Schuhen, Glühbirnen, Matchboxautos … sogar ein vermasseltes Polaroidfoto gestaltet er zu einem rostigen Kunstwerk. Ich sass neben der lieben MizCarla und hab mich gefreut, sie endlich kennenzulernen. Es machte Spass zu sehen, wie sie an ihrem Glühbirnenschrein arbeitete, sogar 2 Versionen. Bin immer wieder erstaunt, was für tolle Ideen alle in den Workshops haben. Hier ist mein Frida-Schrein, aber er ist noch nicht fertig. Mir fehlen noch viele Blumen, deshalb erstmal Blättriges. Ich konnte auch endlich einige seiner Stempel kaufen, die es bei Stampers Anonymous gibt. Mag sie! Meine Nichte Mikalah hatte Spass, an ihrem Geburtstag Modell für Michael’s coole Schürze zu spielen! Süß, oder? Wir konnten natürlich auch schon ein Vorexemplar von seinem bald erhältlichen Buch “Secrets of rusty things” bekommen. Es ist nicht ein übliches Workshopbuch mit Anleitungen, stattdessen gibt es Kapitel über Mythologie. Doch gibt es natürlich muchissimo Detail- und Arbeitsfotos, die die jeweiligen Assemblagen zu jedem Artikel begleiten. Eine Augenweide und sicherlich interessante Lektüre. Und wenn Du ein paar extra Cents übrig hast und Mexiko liebst, möchtest Du vielleicht an seinem Workshop deMeng de los Muertos in Oaxaca, Mexiko im Oktober teilnehmen. Wäre es nicht herrlich, dorthin zu reisen …

Feeling groovy

Don’t have much time since I’m unpacking one suitcase but are packing 2 new ones for New York and Art & Soul next week, but wanted to share a few pics from the past weekend. My biggest problem is that I always forget to take pictures, and I was really bummed about it this time again! But at least I remembered to take pics of the 2 remaining girls from the art dolls for kids workshop. It was a fun time meeting friends and putting faces to names, taking and teaching workshops, shopping, eating, giggling etc. Such a shame I didn’t take pictures of the blue hands my Blue Santa Klimt Shrine workshop caused. I really like blue now and owe it all to Klimt’s blue woman, which you’ve seen around a bit lately already. These are my 3 workshop samples, and my fave (and everybody else’s as well!) was the one using GPP’s Printed Matter stamps which you know by now. A friend commented that the Munich stampers could quickly be identified because of the cool necklaces so many were wearing. Edix and Antje each made a good 100 of these fun necklaces and traded them or just offered them as gifts for non-traders like me. Lucky me got 2 of them! *** Hab nicht viel Zeit, da ein Koffer ausgepackt und 2 weitere für New York und Art & Soul nächste Woche gepackt werden wollen. Doch wollte ich ein paar Bilder vom Wochenende einstellen. Mein Problem ist immer, dass ich vergesse Fotos zu machen und hab es diesmal natürlich auch so gut wie vergessen! Doch wenigstens hab ich noch die beiden letzten Mädels geknipts mit ihren coolen Art Dolls vom Kinderworkshop. Es war eine schöne Zeit und hab viele liebe Menschen wiedergesehen und kann endlich zu einigen Namen nun endlich ein Foto hinzufügen und habe viel geschaut, gestaunt, geshoppt, gegessen und gekichert etc. Susan muß sich wirklich die Abtörnfarbe patentieren lassen! hihi Zu schade, dass ich keine Fotos der blauen Hände vom Blauen Santa Klimt Schrein-Workshop gemacht habe. Mittlerweile bin ich auf Blau gekommen, dank Klimt’s blauer Frau, die ich in letzter Zeit ja öfter verwendet habe. Hab 3 Beispiele gemacht und mein Favorit (auch von den anderen) ist der mit GPP’s Printed Matter-Stempeln, die ja auch schon hier bekannt sind… Ich fand’s lustig zu hören, dass man die Münchner gleich an ihren coolen Ketten erkennen konnte. Edix und Antje waren die fleißigen Seelen, die jeweils gute 100 Stück davon zum Tauschen produziert haben. Ich glückliche Nichttauscherin hab 2 beschenkt bekommen. Vielen Dank!

Stempelmesse Süd

Das Wochenende 21./22.4.07 rückt immer näher, dann ist nämlich Stempelmesse Süd in Stuttgart/Korntal. Freu mich schon drauf und werde beide Tage dort sein. Die Stempelmesse Süd ist nicht so groß wie das Stempel-Mekka, aber das hat auch seine Vorteile. Zum Beispiel wird es wie letztes Jahr bei den Ausstellern Mini-Workshops und/oder Demos geben und ich werde wieder was beim Stand der Stempeloase München machen. Um genau zu sein 2 Mini-Workshops, diesmal hatten wir ja etwas mehr Vorbereitungszeit. Will noch nicht mehr zu den Workshops verraten, außer diese beiden Teaser/Ausschnitte von den Beispielen zeigen. Soviel ist klar, es wird gestempelt – auch mit Acryl – und geschnippelt und geklebt. Hoffe, Dich dort zu sehen. *** The weekend of 21/22 April 07 is approaching and it’s Stamp Convention time in southern Germany (Stuttgart/Korntal). I’m looking forward to it and will be there for both days. Stempelmesse Süd is not as big as Stempel-Mekka, but there’s also advantages to that. For example will there be mini workshops and/or demos from the vendors like last year. I’ll be at the Stempeloase Munich booth. Don’t want to disclose what the workshops will be, but thought I’d post some teasers. One thing is certain, we’ll stamp – also with acrylics – and cut and glue. Hope to see you there.

Sally Jean Alexander

On vendor night I got (yet another) great book: “Pretty little things” from Sally Jean Alexander. She is THE soldering queen! Already last year I saw her original tiaras at Art & Soul’s vendor night which are most amazing! I’ve soldered some microscope slide pendants when they were the first rave a while back. That was it. But to see such gorgeous soldered art makes my heart jump! The book has many articles with very detailed and pictured instructions on jewelry, houses, a doll, a vase and much more. I’m enchanted by her tealight houses! Seeing all this beautiful jewelry makes me want to make some myself. Although I don’t wear any. I know I just would never get anything done like this at home (too many other things to do), so a perfect art retreat workshop. *** Ein weiteres tolles Buch, dass ich am Verkaufsabend gekauft habe ist “Pretty little things“von Sally Jean Alexander. Sie ist DIE Lötkönigin, das steht fest! Letztes Jahr konnte ich schon am Art & Soul Verkaufsabend ihre genialen Kronen bewundern! Als die gelötete Objektträgerwelle vor einer Weile begann, hatte ich auch mal ein paar gemacht. Das war’s dann aber schon. Doch bei solch super gelöteter Kunst, da hüpft einfach mein Herz! Im Buch gibt es viele Artikel mit sehr detaillierten und bebilderten Beschreibungen zu Schmuck, Leporellohäusern, einer Puppe, einer Vase und viel mehr. Verzaubert haben mich ihre Teelicht-Häuser! Obwohl ich seit einer Weile keinen Schmuck trage, krieg ich bei so tollen Sachen richtig Lust drauf. Würde auch am liebsten loslegen und selbst etwas zurechtlöten, aber da käme zuhause sicherlich immer etwas anderes dazwischen. Also ein idealer Workshop für ein Art Retreat.

Art & Soul wrapup

One last post about Art & Soul. There are so many reasons I enjoy attending, my main though is taking fabulous various classes which make it a perfect holiday. Meeting new and old friends is always great. And I wasn’t the only European. There was Céline from France and several people from the UK. And I met Sarah Lawrence, a professional textile artist from Newark/UK who was so kind to share some gorgeous merino wool for felting with me. She’s also the owner of Crafty Notions. Scottish based Stewart Gill was also present the whole week. I knew them before through a Scottish friend and have some of their metallic paints which are fabulous. I just didn’t know they also carry beautiful rubberstamps and stencils. The stamps are very deeply etched and of best quality, ideal for stamping with acrylics. Their new book – The Painted Surface – was a big seller! Meeting new and old friends is always great. Every teacher develops their own and unique workshop. They are always so well prepared, not only with supplies, but also with knowledge. And the interaction with the students is always enriching and fun. DJ for example kept showing us what the other students were experimenting with while making transfers and pages. A lot of people attend to just try out a class in an unknown area they would never explore on their own. I’m doing that more and more. Below are a few more pics from vendor night. Her artwork is amazing, and she sure can wear a corsage over her clothes in cowboy boots! *** Ein letzter Beitrag zu Art & Soul. Es gibt viele Gründe, warum ich immer wieder gerne hinfahre und an einer der vielen Klassen teilnehme, es ist ein perfekter Urlaub. Und ich war nicht die einzige Europäerin. Céline war dort aus Frankreich und ich traf mehrere britische Frauen. So z.B. Sarah Lawrence, eine professionelle Textilkünstlerin aus Newark/UK, die mir wunderbare Merinowolle zum Filzen geschenkt hat. Ihr gehört auch Crafty Notions. Stewart Gill aus Schottland waren auch die ganze Woche dort. Ich kenn sie durch eine schottische Stemplerin und hab einige ihrer Metall-Acrylfarben wie wirklich klasse sind. Wußte bisher aber nicht, dass die auch wunderschöne Stempel und Stencils haben. Der Gummis ist wirklich dick und beste Qualität, ideal zum Benutzen mit Acrylfarben. Ihr neues Buch – The Painted Surface – (die bemalte Oberfläche) war ein großer Renner! Alte und neue Freunde zu treffen ist natürlich auch immer ein Bonus. Jeder Lehrer entwickelt seinen eigenen Workshop. Sie sind immer bestens vorbereitet nicht nur mit Material, sondern auch mit Kentnissen. Und die Interaction mit den Teilnehmern ist natürlich immer bereichernd und macht Spass. DJ z.B. ist hat uns immer wieder gezeigt, was die eine oder andere gemacht haben, während sie mit den Transfers und Buchseiten am Ausprobieren waren. Viele Leute kommen um etwas Neues auszuprobieren, dass sie sonst alleine nie machen würden. Das mach ich auch mehr und mehr. Hier sind noch ein paar Bilder vom Verkaufsabend, die gut die Vielfalt und Kreativität einiger Verkäufer zeigt. Susan Lenart Kazmer war gleich neben/um die Ecke von mir. Ihr Schmuck ist genial und nur sie kann sich erlauben, eine Corsage über der Kleidung in Cowboystiefeln zu tragen!
