Carving

Here’s another sample Xmas postcard I did tonight. As you can see did I use the carved star shrine I did on Sunday. I experimented first on paper. I wanted to have a sheer print so that you can see the cool pattern from underneath. All stamps (diamond, rose, stars outline, shrine) are handcarved. Only the cool text from GPP is commercial. The stars looked a bit empty, so I put in numbers. Need to find more options for them. What I did to get the print sheer is that I wiped off the Staz-On print right away with a towel. Although it’s permanent ink, you can wipe off just enough and it’s exactly what I wanted. The other day I did not mention what tools I use for carving. It’s a lino cutter which you can even buy at Michaels with several blades. I buy my large Safety Cut printing block from Daniel Smith, but Michael might carry small ones as well. Use a simple eraser first if you want to get a feeling for carving! Europeans might look for printmaking blocks in their art supply store. I’ll eventually get a tutorial up on this with every thing in one place. It’s so easy and fun! And you’ll get unique stamps. *** Hier ist noch eine Weihnachts-Musterpostkarte von heute abend. Den Sternenschrein hab ich am Sonntag geschnitzt. Hab zuerst auf Papier ein paar Probeabdrücke gemacht. Ich wollte einen durchsichtigen Abdruck, damit das coole Muster vom Hintergrund durchscheint. Alle Stempel (Rauten, Rosen, Sterne, Schrein) sind selbstgeschnitzt. Nur der coole Text von GPP ist kommerziell. Die Sterne sahen ein bissl leer aus, hab also ein paar Zahlen draufgeschrieben. Muss mir da noch ein bissl mehr einfallen lassen. Ich hab den durchsichtigen Abdruck bekommen, indem ich den Staz-On-Abdruck gleich mit einem Zewatuch abgewischt habe. Obwohl das Kissen permanent ist, krieg ich noch genügend abgewischt, damit er durchsichtig ist. Genau, was ich wollte. Ich hatte letzt vergessen zu erwähnen, womit ich schnitze. Es wird mit einem Linolmesser gemacht. Gibt’s in München bei Kautbullinger, ansonsten bei Boesner, Gerstäcker, Labbé, … Radiergummiplatten weiß ich im Moment nicht, wo es sie in Deutschland gibt. Oder übe erst einmal mit einem normalen Radiergummi. Wenn ich Zeit habe werde ich das alles Sammeln und in einer Anleitung einstellen. Es ist total leicht und macht echt Spass! Und Du erhälst so immer einzigartige Stempel.
