WS: A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Meet Titania and Hermia who are looking for the flower with the ”love juice“, will they find it to untangle the confusion? This is my contemporary interpretation of Shakespreare’s classic. A journal spread made for the new WS A Misummer Night’s Dream challenge.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a comedy by William Shakespeare. It is believed to have been written around 1594 to 1596. It portrays the events surrounding the marriage of the Duke of Athens, Theseus, and the Queen of the Amazons, Hippolyta. These include the adventures of four young Athenian lovers and a group of amateur actors, who are manipulated by the fairies who inhabit the forest in which most of the play is set. The play is one of Shakespeare’s most popular works for the stage and is widely performed across the world. 

Treffe Titania und Hermia, die die Blume mit dem magischen “Blumennektar” suchen, werden sie sie finden, um das Durcheinander zu entwirren? Dies ist meine zeitgenössische Interpretation von Shakespreare’s Klassiker. Eine Journal-Doppelseite gemacht für die MS-Herausforderung Ein Mittsommernachtstraum.
Die Komödie Ein Sommernachtstraum oder Ein Mittsommernachtstraum (engl. A Midsummer Night’s Dream) wurde 1595 oder 1596 von William Shakespeare geschrieben und vor 1600 uraufgeführt. Sie erzählt die Geschehnisse rund um die Hochzeit des Herzogs von Athen, Theseus, und die Königin der Amazonen, Hippolyta. Diese behinhalten die Abenteuer von vier jungen Liebenden aus Athen und einer Gruppe von Amateurschauspielern, die von Feen manipuliert werden, die den Wald bewohnen, in dem das Stück spielt. Das Stück ist eins von Shakespeare’s weltweitbeliebtesten Bühnenschauspielen.

Le Songe d’une nuit d’été (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) est une comédie de William Shakespeare écrite entre 1594 et 1595. La première inscription de la pièce au registre des Libraires date du 8 octobre 1600. C’est une histoire complexe dont l’action se déroule en Grèce et réunit pour mieux les désunir deux couples de jeunes amants, Lysandre, Démétrius, Hélèna et Hermia. Hermia veut épouser Lysandre, mais son père, Égée, la destine à Démétrius, dont est amoureuse Hélèna. Lysandre et Hermia s’enfuient dans la forêt, poursuivis par Démétrius, lui-même poursuivi par Hélèna. Pendant ce temps, Obéron, roi des fées, a ordonné à Puck de verser une potion sur les paupières de sa femme, Titania. Il entre dans la forêt avec Puck. Pendant la nuit, la confusion règne.

I love to strip

Almost nothing better than the sound of tearing up fabric or paper! Michelle’s new GPP 42 crusade: Strip ease is just MOI. I love torn paper edges, I love torn fabric edges. Made a new art journal ludique for the crusade. Just finished an old one and couldn’t resist making a new one. My latest fabric acquisition is the black white zebra print called “party animal”. How fun is that? Just taught my art journal ludique workshop in France last weekend to the most fun and talented group of women, organized by Le Jardin du Mixed Media. Instead of putting the fabrics back onto the shelf, I started stripping, glueing, sewing, tearing, painting … just love to play. And used one of the newer Stampotique images. Might use them throughout the journal, why not? Had to add my brandnew buttons from ARTchix Studio and Studio2Mers Créations. And had to make a first journal entry.

 

Fast nichts ist besser als das Geräusch von reißendem Stoff oder Papier! Michelle’s neue GPP42 crusade: Strip ease ist einfach MOI. Ich liebe gerissene Papierseiten, I liebe gerissene Stoffseiten. Hab ein neues Art Journal Ludique für die Crusade gemacht. Hab gerade ein anderes voll gemacht und kam nicht umhin, ein neues zu machen. Mein neuester Stoff ist der schwarz-weiße Zebrastoff der das heißt: ”party animal”. Wie lustig ist das denn? Hab gerade letztes Wochenende meinen Art Journal Ludique Workshop in Frankreich unterrichtet, was für eine lustige und talentierte Gruppe, organisiert von Le Jardin du Mixed Media. Anstelle die Stoffe gleich zurück ins Regal zu packen hab ich angefangen zu Strippen, Nähen, Reißen, Kleben, Malen … hab einfach gespielt. Und dabei gleich eins der neueren Stampotiquemotive verwendet. Vielleicht verwende ich sie durch’s ganze Journal, warum nicht? Meine neuesten Buttons mußten auch mit drauf, sind von ARTchix Studio und Studio2Mers Créations. Und hab auch gleich einen ersten Journaleintrag gemacht.

Presque rien mieux que le son de déchirer du tissu ou du papier! Michelle’s nouvelle GPP42 crusade: Strip ease, c’est vraiment MOI. J’adore des bords déchirés, soit de tissu ou de papier. Je viens de créer un nouveau art journal ludique pour la croisade. Après avoir rempli un ancien je ne pouvais pas résister faire un nouveau. Ma toute dernière acquisition de tissu est le noir-et-blanc imprimé de zèbre qui s’appelle “party animal”. Trop rigolo, non? Je viens d’animer mon atélier art journal ludique workshop en France le weekend dernier à une groupe de femmes trop gentile, amusante et plein de talent, organisé par Le Jardin du Mixed Media. Au lieux de ranger mes tissus toute de suite dans l’étagère, j’ai commencé à “stripper”,  déchirer, coller, coudre, colorier… j’adore jouer. Et j’ai utilisé une des plus récente images de Stampotique images. Peut-etre je vais les utiliser à travers tout le journal, pourquoi pas? Les buttons sond de ARTchix Studio et Studio2Mers Créations.

WS: Gone fishing

A journal page made for the new WS: Gone fishing challenge. Spottet a mermaid which reminded me, that I love swimming and feel most comfortable in the water.

Eine Journalseite gemacht für die neue MS-Herausforderung: Bin zum Angeln. Hab eine Meerjungfrau entdeckt und die hat mich daran erinnert, dass ich gerne schwimme und mich im Wasser total wohl fühle.

An Indian Wedding

In Germany and India, May is the preferred wedding month. While in India in April, I was able to see the beginning of an Indian Hindu wedding and a Bollywood film shooting, perfect timing. Made this journal spread for the new WS “Here comes the bride“ challenge and the grid was inspired by the GPP crusade n° 41  – Grid lock. The gorgeous jasmin bloom garlands (towards bottom of post) inspired my doodling. Below are some commercial magazine pages from the issue .

In Deutschland und Indien ist Mai der Hochzeitsmonat. Als ich im April in Indien war, hatte ich das Glück den Anfang einer indischen Hindu-Hochzeit zu sehen (mehr unten) und auch Hochzeitsszenen eines Bollywood-Filmdrehs. Perfektes Timing. Hab diese Journaldoppelseite für die neue MS-Herausforderung “Hier kommt die Braut” und die Rasterseite mit Mustern meiner indischen Holzdruck wurde von der GPP crusade n° 41  – Grid lock inspiriert. Die herrlichen Jasminblütengirlanden (weiter unten) haben mich ebenso inspiriert. Oben sind noch einige kommerzielle Seite der Zeitschrift….

Our guide told us that in India a wedding starts with the groom being picked up from the wedding company journeying to the venue where the wedding will take place, depending on the caste on an elephant, horse or camel. This may take several hours, depending on the distance. The wedding comany is composed of friends and family and a music band. The bride awaits him patiently. Unfortunately we never laid eyes on the bride. Needless to say that I love the flower umbrella!

Unser Führer erzählte uns, dass in Indien eine Hochzeit damit beginnt, dass sich der Bräutigam, je nach Kastenherkunft, entweder mit einem Elefanten, einem Pferd oder einem Kamel in einer Parade von seinem Wohnort zum Ort der Feier begibt. Der Umzug kann mehrere Stunden dauern, je nach Entfernung. Die begleitende Hochzeitsgesellchaft besteht aus Freunden und Familie und einer Musikgruppe. Die Braut erwartet den Bräutigam geduldig am Ort der Feier. Diese Braut haben wir leider nicht zu Gesicht bekommen. Muß wohl nicht erwähnen, dass ich total auf den Blumenschirm stehe.

Magical Mexicana!

Time for yet another Frida post, it’s been awhile and it’s raining today in Luxembourg. A woman I admire mucho, and Mexico of course!! Another contribution for the WS ”I love…” challenge. Pendant was made with dreambox pendant from ARTchix Studio, added an image from their Viva Frida sticker sheet designed by moi. Text stamp used is from Paperbagstudio. While I’m at it, I’ll be doing a Shrine Pendant Make & Take at Munich’s Stempeloase on 29 June 2010. Stop by and say hello if you can!

Wird mal wieder Zeit für einen weiteren Frida-Beitrag, ist schon eine Weile her, und es regnet heute hier in Luxemburg. Eine Frau, die ich mucho bewundere ist Frida, und natürlich Mexiko!! Ein weiterer Beitrag für die MS-Herausforderung ”Ich mag…”. Anhänger gemacht mit dem dreambox pendant von ARTchix Studio, hab ein Motiv vom Viva Frida Stickerbogen beigefügt, entworfen von moi. Somehow I keep stumbling across magazine articles inspired by Frida and thought I’d share some, too inspiring! The German magazine DECO showed Frida inspired home interior and dress style.

  

Irgendwie stolpere ich immer wieder über Artikel in Zeitschriften inspiriert von Frida und dachte, ich zeige sie hier. So inspirierend! Die dt. DECO zeigte hier Frida-inspiriertes Einrichten und Kleiden.

German LUNA published a black-and-white article with a Frida inspired style and a dash of color.

   

Die dt. LUNA hatte einen schwarz-weiß-Artikel inspiriert von Frida mit einem Hauch von Farbe.

On the occasion of the opening of the Frida Kahlo retrospective in Berlin (still running until 9 August 2010!) the German VOGUE May issue published a photo sequence from Karl Lagerfeld with Claudia Schiffer. Who would have thought that Claudia looks so good in Frida style, even with bushy eyebrows! While in Berlin in May I thoroughly enjoyed the exhibition and was surprised to see so many people queue for Frida. She still rocks the art world!

  

 

Anläßlich der Eröffnung der Frida-Kahlo-Retrospektive in Berlin (noch bis 9. August 2010!) gab es in der dt. Mai-VOGUE eine Fotoreihe von Karl Lagerfeld mit Claudia Schiffer. Wer hätte gedacht, dass Claudia so gut aussieht im Frida-Stil, sogar mit dichten Augenbrauen. Als ich im Mai in Berlin die Ausstellung besuchte und sie wirklich genoß,  war ich vom Riesenandrang erstaunt. Frida rockt immer noch die Kunstwelt!

And last but not least  I LOVE UK’s Accessorize. London is full with their shops all over and they have several stores already in Germany and just hit the US in Washington DC. Their ethnic style is just gorgeous. The mother company Monsoon brings you beautiful elegant ethnic inspired clothing, not to be missed. For Spring/Sommer 2010 they are travelling with us to Mexico. That is what I’m calling my black&white fabric body bag. Paying homage to the new text stamp haha I heART Stampotique’s Penney/Torrente stamps!! But you know that already, don’t you. Time to finish my fabric bag which I started in March after getting cool fabrics at the Dutch Stoffenspektakel here in Luxembourg.  I’m slow, I know. But I this way I managed to use some newer images. Fits perfectly the new I LOVE WS challenge. 

Bla Bla Bla – so nenne ich meine schwarz-weiße Stofftasche. Als Huldigung meines neuen Textstempels haha  I heART Stampotique’s Penney/Torrente Stempel!! Ja, dass ich auf die Stempel stehe, weißt Du schon. War an der Zeit die Stofftasche fertigzustellen, die ich im März begonnen hatte, nachdem ich mir auf dem holländischen Stoffmarkt hier in Luxemburg so tolle Stoffe gekauft hatte. Meet Miss Lotus

Let me introduce you to Miss Lotus. She likes to rise above all troubles and evil, pulling nourishment even from the dirtiest ground. She is gracing herself with Kaffe Fassett Lotus variations and is presenting some Lotus symbol samples Bel spotted while visiting India last month. A journal spread made for the new square WS challenge.
Laß mich Dir Miss Lotus vorstellen.  Gerne wächst sie über alle Schwierigkeiten und Böses heraus, sich sogar ernährend vom dem schmutzigsten Grund und Boden. Sie ziert sich mit Kaffe Fassett Lotus-Variationen und präsentiert einige Lotussymbolbeispiele, die Bel letzten Monat auf ihrer Indienreise gesehen hat. Eine Journal-Doppelseite gemacht für die neue viereckige MS-Herausforderung.

I was expecting to see the lotus symbol on temples and miniature paintings, but didn’t expect to see it that much, especially not painted onto Indian TATA trucks!
Ich hatte erwartet, dass das Lotussymbol auf Tempeln und Miniaturgemälden zu sehen ist, doch nicht damit gerechnet, dass es so viel zu sehen, am wenigsten gemalt auf indische TATA LKWs!!

The beautiful lotus flower (or nelumbo) is the national flower of not only India, but also Egypt and Vietnam. “The lotus produces a beautiful flower even with its roots in the dirtiest water. The symbolism is that a person can rise above being rooted in the ugliness and suffering of this world, and should try to be pure and help others with the beauty of the spirit.” (WikiAnswer) A nice thought that “even from the worst situation one can always pull through and make the best out of it. No matter one’s struggles in life, he or she will always confer.” (WikiAnswer)

Die wunderschöne Lotusblume (oder Nelumbo) ist die Nationalblume nicht nur von Indien, sondern auch Ägypten und Vietnam. “Die Lotus wächst eine wunderschöne Blüte mit Wurzeln im schmutzigsten Wasser. Die Symbolik ist, dass eine Person darüber hinauswachsen kann, mit dem Häßlichen und Leiden dieser Welt verwurzelt zu sein, und versuchen sollte rein zu sein und anderen mit der Schönheit des Geistes zu helfen.” (WikiAnswer) Ein schöner Gedanke, dass “es selbst aus der schlimmsten Situation einen Ausweg gibt und man das Beste daraus machen kann. Egal, welche Kämpfe einem das Leben beschert, er oder sie wird immer siegen.” (WikiAnswer)

Feeling happy

I like happy colors and picked ORANGE to be this week’s WS challenge. I like it best accompanied by other happy colors; used green apple, diva pink and teal in the art journal spread. I had fun going thru my fabric stash and selected 6 different pieces for the sample page. Found these dolls the other day in a magazine and just had to use it, too cute! Polka dots stamp from Tim Holtz and alpha foam stamps from Making Memories.

Ich mag fröhliche Farben und hab diese Woche ORANGE für die MS-Herausforderung ausgewählt. Am liebsten mag ich sie in der Gesellschaft von anderen fröhlichen Farben; hab Apfelgrün, DivaPink und Gelbgrün in meiner Art-Journal-Doppelseite verwendet. Hatte Spaß, meine Stoffstapel durchzuschauen und hab 6 verschiedene Stücke für die Musterseite ausgewählt. Die Püppchen sind aus einer Zeitschrift und mußte sie einfach verwenden, zu putzig! Punktestempel von Tim Holtz und Alphastempel von Making Memories.

And while I’m at journaling. I’ll be teaching an art journal workshop on 3/4 July in Lille/France. Organized by the lovely and talented Francoise Melzani and the Jardin Mixed-Media. All workshops will be given in French of course. I’m totally excited!
Wenn ich schon beim Thema Journaling bin. Ich werde am 3./4. Juli in Lille/Frankreich einen Art Journal Workshop unterrichten. Hot and spicy

My previous Easter egg post inspired me to use my cactus tree in a journal page for the new WS Tree challenge. Bought the cactus back in 1995 just before moving to Brussels and it measured about 90 cm. Had a very sunny apppartment and it more then doubled in size during the 5 years I lived there. Since then I’ve been taming it so it doesn’t grow thru the roof. Thought the Day of the Dead sticker sheet I designed for ARTchix Studio would fit well with my Hot and Spicy Chili Cactus Tree journal spread. Thanks Patty for making me journal about my cactus tree, probably would have never done it without the challenge.

Mein voriger Ostereierbeitrag hat mich dazu inspiriert, meinen Kaktusbaum auf einer Journalseite für die neue  MS-Baum-Herausforderung zu verwenden. Hab den Kaktus damals 1995 gekauft, kurz bevor ich nach Brüssel gezogen bin und er war knapp 90 cm groß. Hatte dann eine total sonnige Wohnung und in den 5 Jahren dort ist er fast doppel so groß geworden. Seit dem zähme ich ihn, damit er nicht durch die Decke wächst. Dachte, dass Motive des Day of the Dead Stickerbogens, den ich für ARTchix Studio entworfen hab, prima zu meiner ”Heißen und scharfen Chili-Kaktusbaum-Journaldoppelseite” passt. Danke Patty, ohne Deine Herausforderung hätte ich meinen Kaktus wohl nie in meinem Art Journal verewigt.

Happy Easter

It’s been a while since I shared a tutorial, so I thought I’d share my fabric Easter Eggs. I made them for the new WS Eggs challenge. And to keep the skulls going, I have to share the handpainted (real!!) Easter egg my talented sister Blanche from Switzerland surprised me with last year. I thought my big cactus is the perfect “tree”. Stamps used from Stampotique, Tim Holtz and Paperbag. And it fits the current Stampotique challenge. Wishing you a lovely Easter season!

   

  

Ist schon eine Weile her, dass ich eine Anleitung eingestellt habe und dachte, dass meine stoffigen Ostereier passend wären. Hab sie für die neue MW-Eier-Herausforderung gemacht. Und damit es mit den Totenköpfen weitergeht, muß ich unbedingt das handbemalte (echte!!) Osterei zeigen, dass mir meine talentierte Schwester Blanche aus der Schweiz letztes Jahr geschickt hat. Mein großer Kaktus scheint mir der passende “Baum” zu sein. Verwendete Stempel von Stampotique, Tim Holtz und Paperbag. Somit paßt es zur aktuellen Stampotique challenge. 1. Cut out egg pattern, if needed print this one here. Select fabric(s). Lay stencil over fabric to locate the desired pattern area. * Ei-schablone ausschneiden, ggf. diese hier ausdrucken. Stoff(e) auswählen. Schablone über Stofflegen und gewünschtes Muster festlegen.

  

 2. Cut out twice (for front and back). * Zweimal Stoff ausschneiden (für vorne und hinten).

 

3. Cut out piece of sheet batting. If too thick, tear in half to make two. Sandwich batting between fabrics, pin together. * Ein Stück Vlies zuschneiden, zwschen Stoffteile legen und mit Stecknadeln feststecken.

  

4. Using your sewing machine, first stitch middle section together. You can also stitch it all by hand, it just takes longer. * Mit Deiner Nähmaschine, erst den mittleren Teil zusammennähen.

  

5. I prefer the random, untidy look. So I stitched around the edge of the egg THREE times to get the look I want. * Ich bevorzuge den zufälligen, unordentlichen Look. Hab deshalb dreimal das Ei mit der Nähmaschine umrundet.

  

6. Trim edges. * Kanten geradeschneiden.

7. Stamp image onto transparency foil using black StazOn. Clean stamp immediately with solvent stamp cleaner!  * Motivstempel auf Transparentfolie mit schwarzem StazOn aufdrucken. Stempel gleich mit Lösungsmittelreiniger säubern!

  

 8. Paint one side with white gesso/white acrylics, let dry. * Eine Seite mit weißem Gesso/weißer Acrylfarbe ausmalen, trocknen lassen.

 

9. Lay over both sides of egg and decide which is the favorite front side. * Auf beide Seiten auflegen und die Lieblingsvorderseite auswählen.

10. Lay transparency onto fabric egg. Attach to fabric using embroidery floss. If desired, also attach buttons. Tie ribbons around bottom button. Stitch on black thread for hanger. * Folie auf Stoffei legen. Mit Stickgarn auf Stoff festnähen. Falls gewünscht, Knöpfe hinzufügen. Wollstücke/Bänder um Knof unten wickeln. Schwarzen Wollaufhänger annähen.
